Geography
The three schools involved are geographically close. All located in the South Hams in Devon, Dartington Primary and Bidwell Brook are near neighbours of only a few hundred metres and the KEVICC is approximately one mile away.
History
The schools have a history of working together and close collaboration was formed five years ago via a very successful three year pilot project - "Inclusion Matters", funded by the LEA.
The project allowed mainstream special school staff to share good practice and for mainstream pupils to work with special school pupils in both special and mainstream settings.



Although the funding for this project ended, the good work continued informally and it was felt that the benefits to all three schools were such that the collaboration should not only continue, but grow, to incorporate other areas of school life. By joining the schools in a more formal way, as a Federation, the Headteachers involved have made a commitment to build on this firm foundation.
